PHALOMBE Is one of the districts in the southern part of Malawi. It is about 90 kms south east of Blantyre city and 145 kilometers from the south of Zomba. The district covers an area of 1,394 square kilometers and has a population of 231,990.
It is one of the districts with a highest number of orphans due to HIV Aids. With this there is a lot of school drop outs and recently the ministry of education just released statistics which show that only 1 in 50 Women and 14 in 50 Men complete their secondary education. This is very bad for the future of the nation, and locally even personal and community development outcomes are very poor. One of the causes of this is the distance which these children have to travel to Schools. They are so far away that makes it difficult for the youngest children to walk to their nearest Primary School.
Health:
There is only one Mission hospital in the whole district and almost all areas of the district have a clinic. The lack of Health Care provision makes it difficult for the people to access good treatment when they are sick. It often requires people to travel long distances to get to a clinic where hundreds of people waiting to meet one medical attendant, who most of the times does not show up to treat people.
Our vision is to reach out those who are underprivileged in the area of education and help them to arise beyond their boundaries into the fullness of what God called them to be. In short – Transforming lives through education!
In YWAM one of our values is “work in teams” and we are pleased to be increasing our team with two graduates from the September 2016 DTS – Chitani and Annie . We are currently training and growing together as a team, so that we are equiped and ready to launch this base in the next few months.
We have been working in Phalombe for some time but are moving there full time in June 2016 to implement the following programs:
We are trusting God for the construction of a feeding center for the children, housing for hosting teams and for short and long term staff that may be willing to join the team.
We are also hoping to buy farming land where we will be planting some commercial plants to aid in the running of the center.

If you are not a Malawian, you will be required to pay for entry permits and visas in addition to your DTS fees. Please budget an additional $200 to cover this.
