SEND ME BACK TO SCHOOL - KEEP ME OVERVIEW

My name is Patrick Chipanda, born in a family of 10, comprising 3 boys and 7 girls. I am the second-born, and unfortunately, one of my siblings, a brother, and a sister, has passed away.

When I was 15 years old and in grade 8, my parents divorced. This coincided with the end of my primary school education in Malawi. The transition to high school was challenging, as we were now living with a single mother who had no education and relied on small-scale farming and business to support our family. The journey to school became increasingly difficult, but I persevered through undertaking odd jobs whenever the opportunity arose. Sometimes, I had to travel to Mozambique to work in people's fields just to raise enough money for my school fees.

Through these experiences, I have come to understand that access to education in my country heavily favors those who come from well-off families. Shockingly, national statistics indicate that only 40% of pupils in Malawi make the transition to high school, which is an alarmingly low rate.

THE VISION

As a result of my personal story, I have developed a deep concern for children who are currently in school, particularly those in primary and high school. We have already begun supporting struggling students by providing them with school materials and sanitary products for girls. Our aim is to ensure that every child has access to primary education, which is technically free in government schools, although the quality of education is compromised due to overcrowded classrooms. With the help of God and the support of well-wishers, we are currently assisting 5 primary school pupils and 6 high school students. For the high school students, we provide comprehensive support, including groceries, school uniforms, exercise books, and school fees. Although we have started on a small scale, our vision is to expand our reach.

Our vision is to promote and facilitate higher-quality education for underprivileged children, nurturing and guiding them to fulfill their God-given potential.

SUSTAINABLE PLANS

We fervently hope that God will bless us with land where we can establish a private secondary school. This institution will employ professional teachers to provide exceptional education. We aim to accommodate students facing similar challenges, as well as those who can afford to pay for their education. Any profits generated by this school, which we plan to name "Hope Private Academy," will be utilized to support those in other schools. Furthermore, we aspire to continue supporting the high school students until they complete university education and offer employment opportunities to those who pursue careers in education at Hope Private Academy.
