About our DTS
Spend a Year in Malawi
Come and join us in Malawi, ‘the Warm Heart of Africa’ and have a life-transforming encounter with the God who is able to do immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine! As a student of the Africa Impact DTS you will gather with others from Malawi and across the world to discover together the power of Jesus Christ to transform hearts, communities and nations. God has called the people of Africa to make a great impact in the earth, and he wants to start with you! Go deeper in your relationship with God, discover the unique purpose for which He has created you and allow Him to use you for His glory. Together we will learn the power of intercessory prayer and worship to break strongholds and soften the soil of people’s hearts so that they can encounter God for themselves. Side by side, we will look at God’s heart for the nations, exploring how we can partner with each other, and with Holy Spirit, to see His Kingdom come!
Why do a DTS?
The school is designed to help you understand God more deeply, live more like Jesus and identify your unique gifts and purpose to use in missions and in life! DTS will help you discover your place in the Great Commission and embark on a lifetime adventure with God. You will be joined by individuals from all over the world. Together, you will be immersed into a community dedicated to effectively reaching the world with the Gospel.
Lecture phase
DTS begins with a three-month lecture phase in which you will discover what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. The lecture phase is an intensive, residential training course that runs for 11 weeks. You will look at a different topic each week.
The topics will consist of:
- Hearing God’s Voice – Intimacy with God
- Wholeness in Christ – Godly relationships
- The Character and Nature of God
- Spiritual Warfare, Worship and Intercession
- The Great Commission – Church and World Mission
- Redeeming Cultures, Ministering Cross-culturally
- The Holy Spirit and His Gifts
- And more…
The beauty of the teaching on the DTS is that we have speakers from many countries who are living what they are teaching. This means they inform and impart anointing to put it into action.

Outreach Phase
The lecture phase is followed by the 2 month outreach phase. Outreach phase is what makes the YWAM DTS experience unique. We believe that discipleship is not complete until you, a disciple, begin to make disciples. Your outreach phase will give you the opportunity to reach out to other cultures as an ambassador of Christ. You will become His hands and feet in bringing hope to the world. It’s an experience that is bound to shake you to the core and it will define the way in which you view yourself in missions.

Education Track (Gap Year)
For the first time, we are offering an ‘Education Track’ in this DTS! We believe that God wants to transform education to see His kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven and one of the ways to do that is to educate children as God intended. We believe that Christian Education is key to the transformation of Africa. The education track will include the normal DTS with weekly education focused sessions, some focused ministry activities and part of the outreach bringing God’s Kingdom through educational programmes.
Those who complete the DTS are invited to continue in an ‘Education Gap Year’ with the Foundations in Education course that will then continue from the 30th March 2024. There will then be an option to complete a practicum in July and August. The Education Gap year aims to reveal God’s heart for education and lay a foundation for you to either train as an educator or work with children and young people in the future. Come and join us for a whole year! Grow in your relationship with God, get His heart for education of children and young people and then work this out practically in your life beyond DTS!
Accreditation & Requirements:
The DTS is accredited with the University of the Nations (U of N) and students who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate of completion.
Since it is a university level school the program is very full and demanding. This helps to shape and mould each student to be able to stand in the mission field/ministry after completion.
